What can we expect from Meta AI in 2026?

2026-08-29

The technology giant Meta, which owns some of the most popular social media applications such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, has for some time now been more than just that. We are witnessing how the giant is developing its Meta AI business, and most likely we will continue to observe this in the coming year as well.

Current Achievements of Meta AI

Recently, Meta released1 its results for the third quarter of 2025, which show that the company demonstrated strong growth in its core business. Compared to 2024, its annual revenue increased by 26%, while operating profit grew by 18%.

However, final results deteriorated significantly due to high corporate tax expenses, causing net profit to drop by 83%. Still, it appears this was most likely a one-off, tax-related factor, and Meta’s overall operations remain strong and growing.

Back in April of this year, the company introduced2 the Meta AI App. This is an assistant that recognizes user preferences, remembers context, and personalizes information. The app is based on Llama 4 and allows users to interact through conversation.

Other META AI Breakthroughs

In 2025, Meta not only introduced3 a personalized artificial intelligence (AI) assistant but also created an AI-driven video stream called Vibes – a platform where users can discover and create video content themselves.

In March, downloads of the open-source AI model Llama reached 1 billion. It is used by developers and organizations exploring areas such as national security, space, science, agriculture, healthcare, and education.

The company also released SAM models, which allow object segmentation using text and visual prompts, enable 3D object reconstruction, and more. By mid-summer, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also shared4 the idea of a personal superintelligence.

At the same time, infrastructure continues to expand. The technology giant has begun construction of three data centres, while two others have already started operations.

And Meta AI, as usual, is becoming inseparable from AI-powered glasses, such as the Meta Ray-Ban Display introduced this year.

The Current Market Position of Meta AI and Future Projections

Meta itself says that in 2026 it expects to continue shaping the future of technology and human connection. However, while it is among the leaders of the technology market, it can be said that with Meta AI it has likely not yet caught up with the very top players, but is actively trying to do so – by developing its own assistants, video generation tools, and improving infrastructure, with one of the three newly started data centres dedicated specifically to AI.

Still, the company does not yet have a particularly successful standalone AI product, and many of its solutions are integrated into social media platforms.

It is very likely that next year we will see the company making efforts to catch up with leaders such as OpenAI or Google, while faster development of AI features will also be visible across widely used social media platforms worldwide. This year saw numerous internal restructuring processes, and the company was also left by its chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun, which also contributed to a slowdown in AI development.

As we have already seen, when Mark Zuckerberg presented the vision of superintelligence, it revealed that investments in AI are being increased and are slowly paying off. At the same time, the company’s distinctiveness and its desire to develop smart glasses as a potential personal superintelligence tool were emphasized.

Earlier, more concrete plans also appeared in the media. In 2026, Meta is preparing an image and video model with the codename Mango, as well as a new text model with the initial codename Avocado. Perhaps this will become part of a breakthrough?

Nevertheless, we will certainly not escape the optimization of Meta’s advertising tools, where we are also likely to see AI capabilities and integration, with ads being created automatically based on defined user expectations.

Final Thoughts

Meta AI enters the new year with determination, and as we can see – even based on unofficial information – It already has certain strategic goals. Although it has not yet caught up with competitors holding the top positions, it is developing AI and doing so in a comprehensive manner.
