Opera’s Agentic Browser: The Future of Personalized Web Experiences

2025-07-03

Search engines are still one of the most dominant and important tools for finding information online, especially with an agentic browser. Every day, users perform millions of searches on countless topics. But can you imagine a future where, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), we could discover information in a completely different way than we do now, through traditional search results? That’s exactly what Opera Software, the company behind the Opera browser, aims to achieve with its next-generation agentic browser.

Despite growing competition and the rising influence of AI, tech giant Google remains at the top of the search engine landscape. According to Exploding Topics, Google is the most visited website globally, handling approximately 16.4 billion searches per day — that’s about 189,000 searches every second.

Today, users see a wide variety of results and often need time to find the exact answer to their query (unless you’ve already tried AI Overviews). However, Opera Software, the Norwegian company behind the Opera browser, seeks to change this approach to search results.

Recently, Opera introduced its latest Opera Agentic Browser, featuring AI agents designed to fully take over user tasks and handle them directly within the browser. This means the tool can understand a user’s intent and execute tasks and ideas across the web.

This innovation challenges traditional search methods and introduces a completely new perspective on how AI can empower users in their information search.

Henrik Lexow, Senior AI Product Director at Opera, emphasizes that AI opens up entirely new possibilities for everyday users:

“We’re at a point where AI can fundamentally change the way we use the internet and perform all sorts of tasks in the browser. Opera Neon brings this to our users’ fingertips. We see it as a collaborative platform to shape the next chapter of agentic browsing together with our community.”

Unlocking New Web Possibilities

By introducing this new agentic browser concept, Opera promises users the ability to interact with built-in AI agents capable of searching the internet and delivering reliable answers by understanding the full contextual information of the website they are on.

In addition, certain tasks will be automated, such as form filling, hotel bookings, or even online shopping processes.

What’s more, Opera Browser will introduce some rather unexpected innovations. The company aims for these AI agents to help users create tangible outputs — even when they’re offline. For example, agents could create games, reports, code snippets, or even complete websites for users, handling everything from research and planning to the final product.

So far, there is no information on the product’s pricing, but it is hinted that it will be offered as a premium subscription service. The aforementioned task automation tool, Browser Operator, functions as a separate product, while Opera Browser also offers other AI tools, including chatbot-style assistants that can answer search queries related to the website being viewed.

Final Thoughts

Although Opera is only taking its first steps toward a new generation of search strategies with an agentic browser, and more information on these updates is still to come, it’s clear that in the future, users will browse search systems with greater ease, and AI agents will provide comprehensive support in finding information.
